Every October, my husband and I make a special trip into Wisconsin and along the Great River Road Wine Trail. It's the perfect day away with family or friends, boasting a variety of stops that will appeal to all interests- and taste buds. Don't forget the camera!
Danzinger Vineyards Alma, WI- Overlooking the Mississippi River, this was the perfect place to kick off our adventure. Danzinger offers a complimentary tasting option of full tasting for $5. Not being much of a wine person, my husband enjoyed the sweeter varieties available. Our absolute favorite here was November Dawn, a semi-sweet red blend.
Buena Vista Park Alma, WI- Right down the road from Danzinger, this city park is perfect for a picnic or an impromptu photo shoot with more views of the Mississippi.
Country Stop Pepin, WI- Pumpkins, mums, and fudge. You know you want some!
Villa Bellezza Pepin, WI- Visit the tasting room to find your favorite wine and then fill your glass for a self-guided tour around the property, which looks just like an Italian estate. We also grabbed a bite at the in-house restaurant, Il Forno, featuring perfectly sized wood fire pizzas and authentic Italian pasta dishes.
Maiden Rock Winery & Cidery Stockholm, WI- A quick walk through the sprawling apple orchard, and we were ready for another tasting. Like Danzinger, Maiden Rock also offers a complimentary tasting with the option to try more at $1-$2 each. Hard cider is a favorite in our household, so we were sure to pick up a couple of four packs. I prefer the dry "Scrumpy", while Jake picks out the sweeter fan-favorite "Honeycrisp Hard". They also have a tempting baked goods counter and non-alcoholic apple cider.
